Class 141

Class 141 was developed from the single protoype unit of Class 140. It also utilsied Leyland bus body panels but had a redesigned fromt end. It was still narrow-bodied and had longitudinal seats at the outer extremities. The early units, like 140001, were delivered in "Workington Corporation" blue but were soon painted into a light green and cream West Yorkshire PTE livery. 141001 remained in blue until the whole class was refurbished, fitted with different couplers and jumper cables and repainted red and cream. Initially only 141001 & 141004 carried set numbers. After refurbishment the units were renumbered 141101 to 141120. Their working life centred on local services radiating from Leeds, in West YorkshireUpon withdrawal from service several were exported to Iran. See also Preserved units.
